Job Description

The Senior Embedded Systems Engineer is responsible for embedded systems development and testing of Mediasite Recorders; video recording and streaming appliances by working as part of an agile engineering Scrum team.  The team uses Windows Embedded Images for custom systems and develops hardware and software.


Embedded System Design, Validation, and Production

  • Research, identify, provide, and maintain cost effective capture solutions
  • Create and test Windows Embedded Systems Images
  • Update and test Windows Embedded OS drivers and BIOS versions
  • Update and create batch scripts
  • Work with Operations and the contract manufacturer to process customer RMAs and identify potential hardware concerns
  • Verify the hardware build instructions and testing protocols to ensure customers receive stable and functional devices
  • Work with Customer Support to troubleshoot and diagnose escalated customer cases

Vendor Management & Third-Party Device Evaluation/Support

  • Work with Sonic Foundry's contract manufacturer to design, certify, and validate new and existing Embedded/IoT Systems
  • Communicate with third-party vendors to receive, test, and validate various hardware devices
  • Work with capture card vendor(s) to test capture devices and driver updates

Software and Hardware Setup and Compatibility Testing

  • Work with the Capture and QA teams to test the Mediasite Recorder software on dedicated Mediasite hardware systems
  • Setup Mediasite Recorder hardware for Sonic Foundry‚Äôs internal teams
  • Swap computer components and build internal test hardware for internal teams
  • Verify hardware device compatibility with the Mediasite Recorder software
    • Internal and external video capture cards
    • Motherboard inputs/outputs
    • External video network sources
  • Benchmark the Recorder hardware (memory, CPU, and drive performance) using detailed diagnostics tools to ensure product stability
  • Assists Marketing and Engineering with technical documentation activities

Experience & Qualifications

  •  5+ years Embedded/IoT Systems development and support
  • Experience creating and testing Windows Embedded OS Images
  • Experience working with external hardware vendors and manufacturers
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with software development teams to validate hardware capabilities
  • Experience with computer assembly, repair, and modification
  • Knowledge of analog and digital audio, video, and computer interfaces
